What happens if I make a mistake under my Will?

Small mistakes

If you make a small mistake, for example one or two words, you could try to cross out the word(s), and write the correct word(s) and then initial as close as possible to your correction.

Your two witnesses will also need to initial as close as possible to your initials.

However, if your mistake is more serious, then you may not have properly followed the instructions in the included Guide with your Maddison Wills® product, which requires the Will drafter to copy and transfer only approved content from your Draft Will once finalised over to your Actual Will. In these circumstances, you may need to complete a new Will.

We recommend that you try to avoid making any mistakes under your Will.

No correction fluid to be used

We understand that sometimes mistakes can still happen. If so, you could try to rectify them where possible but under no circumstances should you ever use correction fluid to conceal your mistakes. As this could give rise to a suspicion that your Will has been tampered with, which could lead to more serious problems with the administration of your estate.

Designed to help you avoid mistakes in your Will

It has been part of the design of the Maddison Wills® product to include a Sample Will for your reference, and a Draft Will for you to practice on and finalise before completing your Actual Will. For your Actual Will, please kindly note drafting in pencil is not allowed.
