Will a new marriage revoke a Will?

If you draft your Will and then on a later date you are married, your Will may automatically be revoked on the date of marriage unless your Will specifically states that it is made in contemplation of marriage.

Will divorce or separation revoke a Will, or gifts?

Divorce may not revoke your Will, however it may revoke any gift under your Will to a former spouse as well as the appointment of your former spouse as your executor and trustee.

Separation alone will not revoke your Will.

Accordingly, the gift(s) you have made in your Will to a former spouse may still apply following separation, so it is essential that you review and update your Will if separation ever occurs.
